Mindful of both Veteran’s Day and Transgender Day of Remembrance, we will reflect on how much it matters that we learn to honor life and the terrible costs of allowing the degradation of people’s lives to continue.

For this service, everyone is invited to bring a grain-based staple (brown bread, sourdough, buns, muffins, tortillas, challah, naan, for example) that is reflective of your family traditions (new or old) to share as part of the service.

Recognizing the ways that Thanksgiving stories have been told to repress the history of colonization, this service will reflect on survivance, explained to me by Indigenous people as a portmanteau of survival and resilience. It is very much a matter of oppressed people living on their own terms, rather than terms dictated by the oppressor.
