Poem for Mary written by Angie Kasper

Always my teacher.

In life. In death.

Through example she shows

what strength looks like

what inner wisdom looks like

what determination looks like

what adventure looks like

what compassion looks like

what grace looks like

what playfulness looks like

Through teaching she shows

what creativity looks like

what logic looks like

what “meeting the class where they are” looks like

what joy of learning looks like

what community-building looks like

what “no child left behind” really means

and what musical beauty sounds like.

Immeasurable gratitude to her. Boundless.

Infinite.

Celebrating her. Celebrating all the blessings

continuing to come her way.

Teach me still, please.

Teach me while you are still on earth.

Teach me when I hear your heavenly voice as

my own inner wise woman.
