Community Care and Connection

Welcome to our Community Care and Connection page, where we highlight ways to care for and connect with fellow Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington congregants. This space serves as a bulletin page that will be updated based on need.

Congratulations to Eve Loftman Cusack!

Eve, a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington and our Green Sanctuary Task Force, was named a Hoosier Resilience Hero for 2025 by The Environmental Resilience Institute. Learn more about this award and the incredible work Eve has done (and continues to do) in our community by clicking here.

Join us for a graduation party (2)

We would like to invite you to an open house graduation celebration for Jarien 'Jack' Reed, who is graduating from Purdue University this year. Jack has a long history with UUCB, starting when he was just a year old and later receiving a book about President Barack Obama during his age of reason ceremony in 2009.

Many of you may remember Jack's journey overcoming Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune condition he contracted in the spring of 2021 during his freshman year. GBS caused paralysis and required ventilator support. However, through support and his incredible resilience, Jack returned to his studies in the spring of 2022.

The congregation may also know Jack's primary parent, Renee Reed, who has represented UUCB as a delegate at the General Assembly for several years. For many years, Renee was also the chef for the monthly family worship, famously preparing an annual Soul Food Dinner for over a decade. Before moving to Madison, Wisconsin, in the fall of 2020, Renee served as the preschool RE teacher and led the Dismantling White Supremacy collective. You might also recall Mama Ne's work with the Bloomington Black Lives Matter chapter on the Dignity Bag Drive.

If you'd like to enjoy some of Mama Ne's cooking again, please join us at Jack's Open House on Saturday, May 31st, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. If you are unable to attend, you can send cards or well wishes online using the QR code on the open house invitation or via mail to the address provided. We hope to see you there!

Kind regards,

Renee

Patsy Flint turns 90 on June 21. We’re celebrating from 2-5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
Join us to celebrate!
Music by Sarah Flint and friends who bring instruments and/or sing.
Bring finger food to share. There will be plenty of Chocolate Chip Cookies, her favorite.

Check out the new listings on the Bulletin Board at the Courtyard entrance. Carol Ver Wiebe diligently updates them with newspaper clippings about UU's in the News!
