Ben’s Bells

uubensbellsproject

Welcome! If you are visiting this website, chances are you probably found a wind chime directing you here.  Congratulations!

Here is a quick bit of background of how your unique wind chime, a Ben’s Bell came to be in your hands.

June 2014– one of our members, Connie Nelson Laird was walking around town and found a beautiful clay wind chime hanging from a tree.  Being  a clay artist herself, she was delighted when she read the note that told her she could take it home.  The note also encouraged her to spread kindness.  It  made her day and inspired her to bring this project to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington.  This became a fun project that involved many kids and adults at the church in the process.

August 2014– Connie, volunteers and kids in Kindergarten-8th grade worked to create the shapes and beads out of clay.

March 2015– Connie, volunteers and kids in Preschool-8th grade glazed clay pieces, which were fired in a kiln by Connie

May 2016– volunteers and kids in Preschool-8th grade  assembled clay pieces to make wind chimes, added bells and notes.

September 2016– gathered together in Building & Trades Park to claim a wind chime to hang thoughtfully in the community to be claimed by whomever should find it and hope they keep the kindness continue.

The wind chime you are holding, was made with love and care by many hands, from the kids in the Religious Education Program at the Unitarian Universalist Church.  *Seeking the Spirit, Building Community, Changing the World* with one act of random kindness at a time!
