(Inspiring words to bring us into a worshipful time as a community.)

OPENING HYMN

CHALICE LIGHTING
(A child from the congregation lights a ceramic chalice as the minister recites the flame's symbolism which is: the light of truth, the warmth of community, the fire of commitment, and the spark of the divine which calls us to care for the earth.)

CHILDREN'S MOMENT
(A moment dedicated to our children which may include a brief story, drama, song, or a hymn sing. After the Children's Moment, children depart with their teachers to their religious education classes.)

SOCIAL JUSTICE MOMENT
(Once a month, a member of one of our congregation's social justice task forces speaks briefly on a social justice topic such as climate change, economic justice, elder focus, or marriage as a civil right.)

OFFERTORY
(Twenty-five percent of non-pledge contributions are given to a local social justice agency selected annually by the congregation. During the offertory, congregants may light a candle to indicate a joy or sorrow in their lives.)

MEDITATION and COMMON PRAYER
(Words of centering followed by silent reflection which is followed by prayerful words of concern and gratitude for the world and particular concerns of our time.)

GIFT OF MUSIC
(An inspirational gift of choral or instrumental music.)

SERMON
(Thoughtful reflection on topics of a spiritual, justice-centered, poetic or ethical nature.)
