Ministerial Assistance During Public Health Emergency
Reverend Bill Breeden is our Minister Emeritus, and served on our ministry team from 2002 to 2014. He has a puppet called Theodore Barker who is also a theologian. Rev. Breeden supports our congregation’s work for social justice.
Reverend Barbara Carlson is our Minister Emerita, and served our congregation from 1993 to 2005. She created a book Continuously Creating Spirit, compiling the writings of her late husband, Rev. Dr. Clarke Dewey Wells. Rev. Carlson provides pastoral care support for our congregation.
Reverend Barbara Child has served as one of our Sabbatical Ministers, and is an avid writer. She and Reverend Keith Kron wrote a book together on interim ministry, In the Interim. Rev. Child is providing support for our small group ministry.
Affiliated Community Minister
Reverend Forrest Gilmore is our Affiliated Community Minister. He is Executive Director of Shalom Community Center and is an advocate for those experiencing poverty in our community.

Carol Marks joined our staff as Church Administrator in 1992. A native Hoosier, she came up Methodist and became a UU in 1987. Interests include culinary history, poetry, folk music, Shinto, and French language and culture. Long ago she taught high school English and theater. She has published five books of poetry. One of her sons and her daughter-in-law work in professional theater in Houston, and her other son is the owner-blacksmith at Brown County Forge.

Director of Religious Education – Adrienne Summerlot
Adrienne Summerlot joined our staff in 2004. Born and raised a Jersey girl, she spent years in Mississippi but is most proud to plant her roots in Bloomington. She and her husband John became members in 2010 and love seeing Unitarian Universalism through the eyes of their children, Susie, Kate, and Nate. Adrienne is extroverted and energetic and doesn’t believe in the idea of strangers. She spends her spare time storytelling, teaching art to preschoolers, teaching water exercise to adults, and exploring the many parks with her family and camera.

Religious Education Assistant – Stephanie Kimball
Stephanie Kimball joined our congregation in 2005. She is active with the Green Sanctuary Task Force on Global Climate Change, and has taught Intersession and preschool Religious Education here. Stephanie is a writer and educator with a passion for pursuing sustainable living and building resilient communities. She enjoys gardening, hiking, dancing, and hanging out with her two kids. She began her work with us as our Religious Education Assistant on February 28, 2020.
Childcare Coordinator – Hannah Worton
Hannah Worton moved to Bloomington from Columbus, Indiana, last year to start her college education at IU Bloomington. She is a Human Biology major with a concentration in human growth and development. In her free time, you can find her spending time with friends and family, baking, reading, or taking the occasional nap. Hannah joined our team as Childcare Coordinator in September 2019.

Music Director – Susan Swaney
Susan Swaney was hired as the church’s music director in 1992, as a long-shot candidate with no experience. Since then, she has learned much from this church and its choir, and has earned a doctorate in Choral Conducting. In addition, she is Artistic Director of the Voces Novae chamber choir and teaches Voice to Music Theatre majors at IU. Susan is married to therapist/author Ian Woollen, and their son, Jacobsen, is a Music graduate student.
Children’s Choir Director – Jill Courtney
Pianist – Ray Fellman
Ray Fellman (Pianist) lives mostly in Bloomington and occasionally in NYC, with his husband Scott and their rat-huahua, Montezuma Fellhog. Originally from the New York City Area, Ray completed degrees in piano and voice at the Jacobs School of Music in the 90’s and has returned to IU to join the Musical Theatre faculty as an Associate Professor of Voice. Ray served as pianist of the UU Church of Bloomington under Music Director Susan Swaney from 1994-2001 and has since returned to his post, where he hopes to remain for all eternity.
Multimedia Specialists – Andy Beargie and Ned Joyner
Andy Beargie is a videographer who travels widely to make promotional and documentary films. He lives in Bloomington with is wife Addie and has served our congregation as multimedia specialist for several years.
Ned Joyner is a musician, audio-visual enthusiast, and part-time theologian who lives in Bloomington.
Besides making sure our multimedia presentation at services is consistently excellent, Andy and Ned play in a band called Birrrd.

Parking
There is parking on all sides of the church, with first-time visitor and handicapped parking on the south side. In addition, on Sundays Indiana University allows our congregation to park on Jordan Avenue, the first street south of the church.
