Church Administrator – Carol Marks, 812-332-3695, ext. 200
Carol Marks joined our staff as Church Administrator in 1992. A native Hoosier, she became a member in 1987. She loves lists, and loves checking things off lists even more. Interests include Unitarian Universalism, culinary history, poetry, folk music and French language and culture. Long ago she taught high school English and theater. She has published three books of poetry and her fourth book will be published before the end of 2017. One of her sons is a theatrical scene designer based in Houston, and her other son is owner-blacksmith at Brown County Forge.
Connections Coordinator – Ann LeDuc, 812-332-3695, ext. 203
Director of Religious Education – Adrienne Summerlot, 812-332-3695, ext. 202
Adrienne Summerlot joined our staff in 2004. Born and raised a Jersey girl, she spent years in Mississippi but is most proud to plant her roots in Bloomington. She and her husband John, became members in 2010 and love seeing Unitarian Universalism through the eyes of their children, Susie, Kate and Nate. Adrienne is extroverted and energetic and doesn’t believe in the idea of strangers. She spends her spare time storytelling, teaching art to preschoolers, teaching water exercise to adults and exploring the many parks with her family and camera.
Religious Education Assistant – Kitty McIntosh
Kitty has happily resided in Bloomington all of her adult life. She came to UU Bloomington in the late 90’s on a search for a church home. This is her second go round as the RE Assistant. She is the proud mama of Mandy, Matt, and Stephanie. When not zipping through the church you might find her cuddling newborns in the NICU, at the animal shelter, or cheering on the Lady Hoosiers basketball team.
Music Director – Susan Swaney
Susan Swaney was hired as the church’s music director in 1992, as a long-shot candidate with no experience. Since then, she has learned much from this church and its choir, and has earned a doctorate in Choral Conducting. In addition, she is Artistic Director of the Voces Novae chamber choir; teaches Voice to Music Theatre majors at IU; serves as an adjunct in the IU Choral Conducting Department; and occasionally music directs stage productions. Susan is married to therapist/author Ian Woollen, and their son, Jacobsen, is a Music graduate student.
Children’s Choir Director – Jill Courtney
Pianist – Ray Fellman
Ray Fellman (Pianist) lives mostly in Bloomington and occasionally in NYC, with his husband Scott and their rat-huahua, Montezuma Fellhog. Originally from the New York City Area, Ray completed degrees in piano and voice at the Jacobs School of Music in the 90’s and has returned to IU to join the Musical Theatre faculty as an Associate Professor of Voice. Ray served as pianist of the UU Church of Bloomington under Music Director Susan Swaney from 1994-2001 and has since returned to his post, where he hopes to remain for all eternity.
