Carol Marks joined our staff as Church Administrator in 1992. A native Hoosier, she became a member in 1987. She loves lists, and loves checking things off lists even more. Interests include Unitarian Universalism, fiber arts, poetry, folk music and French language and culture. Long ago she taught high school English and theater. She can be heard reading her poems occasionally on the radio, or at the UU Chalice Coffeehouse. Her son Dylan is an actor based in Houston, and son Terran is a wildfire fighter for the U.S. Forest Service.

2014 Judy BConnections Coordinator – Judy Bennett, 812-332-3695

Judy Bennett grew up in England where she became a Registered Nurse and Certified Midwife.  In 1970 she emigrated to the US and raised a family.  She returned to school to become a pharmacist, and worked in retail pharmacy for over 20 years until her retirement. She discovered the UU church in 1994 and when the position of Membership Coordinator was created early 2009 it called to her as an opportunity to continue working with people.  She was on the Board of the UU Association for Membership Professionals for 3 years. Her position here has recently been renamed “Connections Coordinator.” She enjoys reading, knitting, yoga and listening to music.

Adrienne Summerlot joined our staff in 2004.  Born and raised a Jersey girl, she spent years in Mississippi but is most proud to plant her roots in Bloomington.  She and her husband John, became members in 2010 and love seeing Unitarian Universalism through the eyes of their children, Susie, Kate and Nate.  Adrienne is extroverted and energetic and doesn’t believe in the idea of strangers.  She spends her spare time storytelling, teaching art to preschoolers, teaching water exercise to adults and exploring the many parks with her family and camera.

Religious Education Assistants – Kitty McIntosh, Miranda Sanders

Sue 2011 croppedMusic Director – Susan Swaney

Susan Swaney was hired as the church’s music director in 1992, as a long-shot candidate with no experience.  Since then, she has learned much from this church and its choir, and has earned a doctorate in Choral Conducting.  In addition, she is Artistic Director of the Voces Novae chamber choir; teaches Voice to Music Theatre majors at IU; serves as an adjunct in the IU  Choral Conducting Department; and occasionally music directs stage productions.  Susan is married to therapist/author Ian Woollen, and their son, Jacobsen, is a Music graduate student.

Road Construction May-August 2015

East 17th Street closed for construction project

Motorists traveling along the east edge of the Bloomington campus should be aware that East 17th Street is closed through August 7. 17th Street will be closed from St. Paul Catholic Center to Lingelbach Lane. Fee Lane through campus or the Bypass will be the best routes to church from the east side all summer.

There is parking on all sides of the church, with first-time visitor and handicapped parking on the south side. In addition, on Sundays Indiana University allows our congregation to park on Jordan Avenue, the first street south of the church.
